Kenya protests to China over raids

Kenya is angry with China over the mistreatment of Kenyans living in various Chinese cities.
Reports have emerged that Kenyan nationals are among other Africans living in China who have been racially discriminated over the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the Foreign Affairs ministry said its attention has been drawn to information concerning the situation of some Kenyan nationals following a decision by China to test foreigners and Chinese nationals alike, to forestall imported and asymptomatic cases in Guangzhou and other areas of China.
"Unfortunately, these measures have in some instances precipitated unfair responses against foreigners, particularly of African origin, from some members of the local community in Guangzhou, especially landlords. The ministry, through its Embassy in Beijing, is seized of this matter and has officially expressed concern and is working with the Chinese authorities to tackle the matter expeditiously," read the statement.
The ministry said it had received assurances from the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi that China was taking a serious view of the situation and that the local authorities in Guangzhou have been tasked to take immediate action to safeguard the rights of Africans. 
Yesterday, outraged Kenyans in Chinese cities demanded to be repatriated home after being subjected to 'racial discrimination' by Chinese nationals and security officers.
Several Kenyans were among other Africans kicked out into the streets.

State releases Sh8.7bn for needy families

The government has released Sh8.7 billion under the cash transfer programmes to cushion vulnerable people against the effects of coronavirus as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Social Protection Principal Secretary Nelson Marwa said on Sunday that a further Sh500 million has also been released to clear arrears owed to persons living with disabilities. Mr Marwa said the money has already been wired to respective banks, and each beneficiary will receive Sh8,000, which is the cumulative payment between January and April. The paying banks contracted by the beneficiaries include Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, Post Bank and Cooperative Bank. “This money is meant to cushion these vulnerable groups from the negative effects of Covid-19 as emphasised by President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Mr Marwa said. My determination for this coming election, is that we must bring this country together whatever the price and cost, DP William Ruto has said. These were the words of Ruto from a clip aired in  2012. The deputy president shared the clip on Sunday saying that "This was in 2012, 9 yrs ago. Am as persuaded now as was then."   In the clip, Ruto said he is convinced that Kenya must be united. "... those who do not believe that Kenya will be one are in for a shock.
