Dubai is beginning to accept foreign visitors with the highest global health and precautionary standards

The first international tourist community in Dubai since the advent of the COVID-19 global pandemic has been created, with robust precautionary measures and protocols enforced to ensure high international visitors’ health, safety and well-being standards.

After substantial progress in curbing the spread of the virus, Dubai recently announced its reopening to foreign visitors on 7 July. Crown Prince of Dubai His Highness Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited Dubai Airport and examined precautionary protocols and preparations to welcome tourists.

Prior to its reopening, Dubai obtain a Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), validating the city’s stringent global hygienic and security standards for tourism and passenger health.

HH Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed said that the multifaceted measures adopted by Dubai for tourism reflect his position as one of the most popular destinations in the world. The city’s superior health infrastructure and stringent preventive and safety protocols, followed by its city-wide transport, hospitality and tourism facilities, ensure the emirates are one of the safest destinations in the world.

Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubái Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of the Emirates Group, said that Dubai Airport has implemented globally-banked measures to ensure passenger health and welfare, prevent the spread of the virus and provide the highest levels of safety at its installations. The steps implemented on a comprehensive basis, allow Dubai to dramatically reduce infection risks and efficiently handle any possible scenario.

Dubai has remained a top international tourist destination during the last few months even when restrictions are removed. Ranked one of Mastercard’s 2019 Global Destination Cities Index (GDCI) as one of the world’s five most visited cities for the fifth consecutive year, Dubai welcomed 15.93 million international overnight guests last year.

State releases Sh8.7bn for needy families

The government has released Sh8.7 billion under the cash transfer programmes to cushion vulnerable people against the effects of coronavirus as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Social Protection Principal Secretary Nelson Marwa said on Sunday that a further Sh500 million has also been released to clear arrears owed to persons living with disabilities. Mr Marwa said the money has already been wired to respective banks, and each beneficiary will receive Sh8,000, which is the cumulative payment between January and April. The paying banks contracted by the beneficiaries include Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, Post Bank and Cooperative Bank. “This money is meant to cushion these vulnerable groups from the negative effects of Covid-19 as emphasised by President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Mr Marwa said.
