Three die, 29 recover from Covid-19

 


Twenty-nine more patients recovered from Covid-19 on Monday, pushing the number of recovered patients to 83,936.

Thirteen of the patients were discharged from the hospital and the other 16 declared free of the virus from home. 

“Another three patients have lost their lives to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,766. Our condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement.

Kagwe said 83 people had tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 1,732 tested in 24 hours. This represents a positivity rate of 4.7 per cent.

The new cases comprised 46 men and 37 women aged between six and 88 years.  Twenty-two were foreigners.

“There are 464 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide while 1,407 are on home-based isolation and care. Twenty-three patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, 12 of whom are on ventilator support and 11 on supplemental oxygen,” Kagwe said.

“Another 16 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 13 of them in the general wards and three in the high dependency unit.”

Nairobi recorded the highest number after registering 61 new cases. Thirteen of the cases were from Lang’ata, 10 from Dagoretti North, five each from Kibra and Ruaraka and three cases each from Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Makadara, Mathare, Roysambu and Starehe.

Embakasi East, Kamukunji and Westlands recorded two cases each while Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Embakasi North and Kasarani recorded one case each.

Uasin Gishu recorded six cases; four from Ainabkoi with the remaining two coming from Kaseret and Kesses.

Busia had four cases from Matayos and Mombasa recorded four cases, three from Mvita and one from Jomvu.

Kiambu recorded two cases from Githunguri and Thika while Kilifi had two cases from Kilifi North.

Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Machakos and Migori each recorded one case from Keiyo North, Belgut, Athi River and Suna East respectively.
